Two weeks have passed since we held our devMEET in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, to celebrate deviantART's eleventh birthday. It's high time for a recap! This blog entry will tell you all about the activities we hosted on that day.
The #europeans operators assembled on Museum square an hour before the devMEET officially started, at noon, to run over some last details. To our surprise, there were already quite a number of people present at the location! Everybody started to mingle and socialize with other deviants while waiting for some last arrivals. At around 1:15 PM, `fritsvandersloot held a short speech, and we all posed for several group photos. After taking the group photos, we proceeded to walk towards the Vondelpark.
On the way to the Vondelpark, we stopped at a local Albert Heijn (grocery store), so everybody could stock up on some food and drinks. Once everybody completed their raid, we continued our walk to the Vondelpark.
Once we arrived at the Vondelpark, we found a nice spot in the grass and settled down.
Soon afterwards, we started our first activity: a cake contest! Similar to the one we held in Berlin last year, attendees formed four groups and were each given a cake. Decorations were handed out as well, and creative juices soon flooded the park! We, the admins of #europeans, picked the two winning groups, which all received deviantWEAR t-shirts. The two runner-up groups won trollface lanyards!
After the delicious cakes were eaten, we split the group up in three parts for our second round of activities. We formed three groups: the photography group, which went on a photo hunt; the drawing group, which went to an idyllic part of the park to draw; and the lazy group, which stayed around the same spot, creating a longcat, playing some soccer, or eating a hotdog.
Prizes were handed out to winners in each group. A massive group hug, a short closing speech and some shenanigans ended the day's activities.
